This was a special project for RBD—both because the client was an RBD employee for many years and because the house and property were so unique. Originally built in 1947, it hadn’t been on the market since 1960, which gave the client an unaltered palette. The home’s unique asymmetrical shape was built around an existing tipu tipu tree creating a natural centerpiece that catches the eye and holds the attention of the home’s exterior. With the architect’s addition of large sprawling windows and skylights, our team was able to work with the home’s abundant natural light and create an indoor-outdoor feel throughout the home’s interior. With the clear separation of private living spaces and open public spaces perfect for entertaining, we were able to enhance the existing architecture with personal artistic touches that reflect the client’s overall style. Wood accents, tiled “texture” elements, accent colors, and additional indoor-outdoor connections add an overall warmth and comfort to the existing spaces of this unique and modern home.
