Material sampling and discussion space:

Across from the discussion tables sits the material sampling area, showcasing ample and sturdy storage units meticulously crafted to accommodate heavy material samples of various sizes. A thoughtful addition is the soft board positioned behind, allowing sheets to be pinned up for quick reference during client discussions. Adding to its versatility, the soft board also seamlessly aligns with the pantry’s fixed glass wall, serving as a shield for added privacy when needed

As for the unexpected pops of yellow, it wasn't initially on the moodboard. However, during the iterative design process, the idea to paint a circular column yellow emerged and quickly gained momentum. Before long, the vibrant hue began to sneak its way into other areas of the space, adding playful accents throughout.

Besides the birch plywood furniture, another anchor point for the design was the thin, easily overlooked metal strip lighting above the workstations. This lighting provided ambient illumination, casting a soft glow that mimicked the natural daylight washing over the ceiling.

Reception and waiting :

As the reception area serves as the initial point of contact. What makes this sight intriguing is the fact that the yellow metal benches, weighing approximately 600 kg, are beautifully balanced by sleek, delicate metal rods on the other end. This intentional paradox is designed to entice curious observers. In addition, a louvred partition is positioned behind these metal benches to serve as a sliding screen, discreetly shielding the discussion zone from guests waiting outside.

Conference room :

Behind the discussion area is the library and conference area. Designed around the huge column in the space, the room is divided into three parts with the main conference table in the centre, the library tucked behind the column and a comfortable, unwinding space across the table for the team to delve deep into thought. An interesting detail to note in this space is the cantilevered conference table, almost 15 ft in length projecting out into space.

A studio for the team, by the team!

Whilst still in the early phases of growing the practice we enjoyed the opportunity to uncover our design philosophy and voice while understanding the functional aspects of the space.

The brief was simple: an open space with flexible furniture and built-in partitions for space segregation. .The goal was to prevent any hierarchy that might disrupt natural movement and flow. Workstations Dominate this layout, occupying maximum space, with small and large collaborative corners emerging adjacent. Meanwhile, the reception, pantry, cabins, and service core are thoughtfully aligned to the south side, ensuring an unobstructed path conducive to collaboration and creativity.

The interior theme strikes a balance between eclectic and industrial aesthetics, seamlessly weaving through the space. Geometric shapes and lines guide the design, with birch plywood taking the lead role and metal serving as the underrated sidekick in this narrative.

The studio’s penchant for accentuating metal lines is evident, showcasing craftsmanship not as a hidden detail, but as an integral part of the artistic expression. This meticulous attention to detail is reflected in every corner, from the sleek chairs to the circular discussion table and the innovative hanging shelves. This intentional aesthetic is more than just a design choice—it’s a statement, defining who AXA is and how they approach design.
