The House lies within a gently contoured HawkesBay vineyard facing sea views in the distance. The House is designed as a sculptural folded roof creating a large canopy over the different quarters and echoing the surrounding landscape. The clients wanted a two bedroom house with specialised spaces for each of the inhabitants: a secluded but visually open Writing studio/guest house for her to work on the writing of novels and a cycle workshop linked to the garage for him to store and repair his bicycles.
The planning focuses around orientating the house directly in line with the vineyard and corresponding sea views. A seperate deck is positioned tot eh South-west to provide an outdoor area sheltered from the prevailing sea breezes while at the same time linked to the sea. The clients wanted a rawness of materiality a=asn white washed plywood is used for the linings and furniture. these materials are combined with a heated concrete slab and punches of vivid colour.
