From studio OFF THE GRID
Nestled in the dense urban core of the city, two adjoining plots posed a rare opportunity—and a distinct architectural challenge. The brief was deceptively simple: to create a standout office building that would adhere strictly to local bylaws yet speak volumes about the personality of its owner. The result is The Regent—a bold design statement where sculptural form meets urban function.
From the onset, the design was driven on the belief that architecture should express the essence of its user. In this case, the client is a figure who thrives on distinction and individuality. The principles guided the development of a dramatic diamond-shaped façade—an angular, prismatic form that would become the signature of the building. The name The Regent, inspired by the most flawless diamond ever discovered, reflects the building's ambition to reflection—both visually and symbolically.
Elevated on a stilted base, the structure rises four floors above ground. The topmost level is reserved for the client’s office—a double-height volume that speaks to grandeur, light, and openness. The Managing Director’s cabin, conceived as a private retreat within the office, spans two levels and is connected by an internal staircase. This vertical division adds a subtle yet powerful metaphor of ascension and perspective, reinforcing the executive's role as both leader and visionary.
The architectural expression concludes in the diamond-shaped façade—a defining gesture that demanded extraordinary structural precision. Suspended 40 feet above ground, the complex geometries required meticulous coordination between design intent and engineering execution. Each angle was carefully studied, ensuring both aesthetic clarity and constructional integrity. The process was a true collaboration between vision and craft, where form did not compromise function, but rather elevated it.
Beyond its striking profile, The Regent is a carefully calibrated balance of expressive design and commercial pragmatism. While the top floor is tailored to the client’s bespoke needs, the remaining levels offer adaptable spaces for lease—making the building not only a personal statement but also a sustainable urban asset.
In a cityscape often defined by repetition, The Regent carves its own identity—an urban diamond that reflects both the aspirations of its owner and the possibilities of contemporary architecture
