This new residence, in Phoenix Arizona was designed on the site of owners’ previous 30 year old home. The charge was to maximize daylight, the outdoor/indoor relationship, position the home with minimal site impacts and not disturb the existing trees which are utilized as sun shading for the new outdoor living area. The design is also the result of the client’s desire to create an open, contemporary and organized residence in place of their former home.

The approach was a symmetrical composition of three distinct masses, unified by a central open living area and an outdoor courtyard. The resulting design focuses around a series of open living spaces, visually and physically flowing together, suitable for entertaining, yet appropriately scaled for the family. Daylighting and the seamless link between the indoors and outdoors were significant elements contributing to the creation of the plan.
