The Odd One Out project, situated in the lively Gò Vấp district of Ho Chi Minh City, revolutionizes the concept of small-scale living by transforming the constraints of a 29-square-meter residence into an opportunity for innovation. NU Architecture & Design demonstrates how compact spaces can foster a dynamic, contemporary lifestyle by maximizing natural light, maintaining material harmony, and optimizing spatial flow.
Cohesion defines this home’s design at its core. From cabinet pulls and door handles to wall lighting, skylights, every element is meticulously curated to reinforce visual harmony. A refined yet artistically rich ambiance emerges through careful attention to detail, enhancing the home's spatial clarity.

The architectural team deftly leverages verticality, transparency, and continuity to enhance the sense of openness, resulting in a home that appears significantly larger than its physical size. The indoors and the exterior world are seamlessly connected by the full-height glass façade, which is framed by minimal structural elements. This design floods the interior with daylight, blurring the boundaries between indoors and out. The staircase, which has been redesigned with an openwork structure, enhances visual continuity and a sense of openness by filtering light throughout the home.

The selection of materials serves to further enhance the design strategy. The interior is illuminated by white terrazzo surfaces, and the mellow oak tones provide a tactile comfort that does not overpower the space. Built-in storage preserves the home's clean lines, seamlessly blending function with design to minimize clutter. Additionally, functionality and everyday living are prioritized by the architecture team. The open-plan ground floor layout fosters a more connected lifestyle by encouraging interaction between the kitchen and living areas. The space beneath the staircase is also utilized as a study alcove, ensuring that every square meter serves a purpose with thoughtful efficiency.

The rooftop, which is frequently ignored in urban environments, is transformed into a dynamic social and functional space. A lightweight trellis frames the rooftop, transforming it into a versatile sanctuary enriched by lush greenery. The rooftop, which is intended for social gatherings, peaceful moments, and relaxation, enhances the home's livability by reclaiming underutilized urban space.

This project redefines compact living, turning constraints into opportunities through intentional design. NU Architecture & Design has transformed this home into a blueprint for maximizing spatial potential—proving that compact living can be both flexible and enriching as cities grow denser.
