My husband Steve and I purchased our home in July of 2016.
It overlooks a beautiful view of the hills of Carmel Valley, California on the Central Coast.

Hence the name for our house (Nido is spanish for bird’s nest).

The home was built in 1958 and was in dire need of a remodel when we purchased it.

We spent the next couple of years completely renovating it.

We knew we could not afford to hire a construction/design firm, but since Steve grew up working in construction, he was able to do a lot of the work himself to save costs.

We also realized the importance of installing a landscape that would be more resistant to wildfires, so we made extensive use of gravel and low water plantings.

This midcentury home is quite unique to this area.

It has a wall of picture windows looking out towards the valley, and high vaulted and beamed ceilings.

We love this house for its uniqueness and its perfect nest-like perch atop a hill.
