The purpose of this residential project was to create a home that displays the owner's incredible art collection while simultaneously making it an interactive space for his family. "Living with art" is the concept that breathes life into the interior and exterior of the home.
Seventy-four pink paints were tested on the exterior before a custom-mixed hue by Sherwin-Williams was selected to be paired with the black and white tile designed by Frank De Biasi. Surrounding the house are woven-mesh metallic screens that filter in Miami's sunlight and continuous ribbons of glass that provide an open view of the garden, the courtyard, and the Biscayne Bay area. The main facade of the house was fixed with concrete fins that face downtown Miami.
Inside the home is a vast collection of eclectic art pieces to fit the home owner's tastes. Within the living room is an Anish Kapoor work that hangs over the art deco fireplace, an enormous Keith Haring mural dominates the mirrored divider between the sitting and living rooms, and armchairs by Mattia Bonetti that flank an elephant side table by Francois-Xavier Lalanne.
The staircase, often an overlooked fixture in a home, is clad in thirty-seven types of marble; this specific installation was done alongside artist Martin Creed, whom the architect worked with closely to ensure that that the staircase was installed seamlessly into the home.
When it came to the design of the dining room, the home owner wanted the room to say playful yet glamorous. As a result, the room was fitted with pink lamps, 19th-century murano glass chandeliers and a pink-and-green aubusson.
