The Lake House
From Agnese Kalnarāja
The Lake house is located in the outskirts of Riga, near to the coastline and forest, in a serene neighbourhood. It has a private exit to the river, is surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape, fresh air and calmness. Colour scheme and materials were inspired by nature and kept as close to the landscape as possible. Tones like creamy whites, light greys, warm beige were used, allowing natural light to play and create a sense of openness.
Design focus was to design a space that reflects comfort, quality and functionality while letting the beautiful environment talk for itself. The house was built previously, but with the design tranformation it opened up for new textures, lighter aura and more living space. Textured stone, wood and marble was used to keep a sense of balance and earthiness.
As for the colour scheme the interior is quite monochrome, but contrasting textures add more character and depth. Especially in the master bedroom where natural terrazzo and concrete stand against soft linen fabrics and warm wood.
In some of the rooms and bathrooms the designer did full renovation with changing floors and wall materials. A lot of natural stone was used for surfaces, furniture and accent walls. Designer, Agnese Kalnarāja, designed custom made tiles for master bathroom, and chose Salvatori for guest bathroom. As for furniture Scandinavian and Italian aesthetics were mixed, with brands such as Minotti, Gubi, Ligne Roset, Porro, Arclinea. Marble dining table was custom-made as the central point of the living room. For sofa we chose a Walter Knoll piece in a beautiful soft leather.
