Imagine being given a two-story corn crib to turn into a tiny house. The Crib, built in the 1950’s, is a 12’ x 31’ wooden corn crib with original slanted tin roof braced with X-shaped cross beams. The old cracked cement floor we covered with insulated, raised wooden floor. Having no windows, we added 24 windows, door, 12’ x 13’ back bedroom under a loft. An 8’ x 10’ shed was added to house the bathroom, closet and laundry. Covering the original roof with red board and batten tin, we were able to keep and enjoy the interior of the roof in its original galvanized state. The 18’ ceiling remains vaulted also exposing the 1950’s cross beams. Sliding barn doors original to the property divide the bedroom and enclosed staircase from the living area. Feature wall between the doors is papered with corn printed wall paper from Spoonflower and is hidden behind outside slats from the corn crib. The dry walled walls are white with the wood trim and baseboards reclaimed from the Crib. We repurposed everything we could. Reclaimed wooden slats also form a wall width headboard. One bedroom wall is the original rough cut outside/inside wall of the crib. The 104” wall kitchen is reclaimed black cabinets and marble from the remodeled farmhouse. Open shelves are galvanized pipes and reclaimed wood. The bath features a whiskey barrel vanity with hammered copper sink and live edge counter top. A hand faux painted pocket door separates bath and main room. The 18’ white walls are hung with black and white photos of the original inside of the crib. Kitchen table made from... reclaimed wood. Microwave appears to be hanging from pipe. Heat and air supplied by motel room wall unit. New septic system. Outside is grey tin board and batten siding. We tried to keep The Crib looking like a farm outbuilding. Next summer we will add wrap around deck to go with the rain barrel and wildflower garden. Much more to tell. Enjoy the photos.
