A young couple purchased this modest, single story 1920's Berkeley fixer and planned to expand it for their growing family. While, it could have been described as a typical Berkeley bungalow, it had no real charm or period details, so the owners felt fine about introducing a more contemporary look, while referencing some craftsman touches. The exterior massing is similar to the a New England Salt Box which helped us expand the house while not exceeding maximum height requirements. The cement plaster finish and the wide dormer on the front adds a contemporary twist. We also added an accessory building for a home gym/ hangout space.
