Designed with a multi-generational family in mind, we created a home that would eliminate hardships for the elderly grandparents while providing good circulation and open space for the parents and their two girls. We reimagined the dark, cramped first floor into a refreshing abode. This entailed deconstructing the galley kitchen to a more appropriate scale, raising the sunken living room to meet the kitchen floor for ease-of-use, adding more storage to aid in decluttering, and installing multiple overhead lights to brighten-up the entire level. Now, the open plan kitchen overlooks an enlarged breakfast nook and emphasizes the dining room’s oversized-picture window.
To seamlessly blend his and her styles, which mesh mid-century modern with traditional aesthetics and Parisian colors, we infused a neutral color palette of white, grey, and wood tones. We layered materials such as veined Cambria marble, richly-hued walnut and soft colored paint. And we sourced slim silhouettes that take up minimal floor space while allowing light to bounce freely.
