Our clients, a small family, dreamed about a small house in their village, Skotbu. Our vision was to create a residence that not only fulfilled their practical needs but also resonated harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. Drawing inspiration from the flat, expansive vistas of the landscape, the house is well integrated with its natural setting. We aimed for a simple and functional design, with a strong connection with the nature and, although modern, would stand the test of time.
The house is placed in the northeast side of the plot, allowing the creation of a sunny garden on the southwest part. The volume of the carport defines a natural separation with the neighbors property and marks the entrance to the house. The horizontal expression of the facade was achieved through meticulous attention to detail, with distinct materials between the floors. The first floor stands like a heavy base, built with loadbearing construction blocks (Ytong), while the second floor is a light wooden construction. Large corner windows are strategically placed on the first floor, to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. The openings on the more private second floor emphasize the spectacular views of the surrounding nature. The detail of the wooden frame around these windows is important to achieve this effect. The texture of the outdoor plaster was the result of good craftmanship in collaboration with the supplier and designer. Careful coordination with engineers and contractors ensured the good integration of structural elements, while a muter material palette of natural woods and understated finishes lent a timeless elegance to the interior spaces.

Inside, the layout was designed to flow effortlessly, with interconnected living spaces that promote interaction and a sense of continuity. The spatial configuration of the house was driven by a desire to optimize functionality, foster a sense of openness, and capitalize on the surrounding views.

The central living area becomes the heart of the home, with strategically positioned windows and sliding doors blurring the boundaries between in- and outside. Upstairs, private rooms were carefully arranged around a central hallway, affording each bedroom privacy while still maintaining a connection to the surrounding landscape. Through meticulous planning and execution, the spatial configuration was realized to enhance livability and maximize the access to natural surroundings.
