An interior where minimalism and comfort converge in elegant geometry
This project demonstrates how architectural constraints became the genesis for expressive solutions. A 169 m² apartment in the city center was designed for a family with two teenagers — active, contemporary people who value thoughtful comfort and restrained aesthetics.
The client's priorities included:
A spacious, functional kitchen
A comfortable family gathering area
A fully equipped laundry room
Private bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms
The challenge lay in striking a delicate balance between functionality and visual tranquility — eschewing excessive decor while maintaining strong architectural logic. With ceiling heights limited to 2.7 meters and skylight constraints, we strategically routed utilities through transitional and private zones.
Geometry became the interior's primary expressive language: diagonally extended window reveals, mirrors, and glass partitions amplify natural light while creating dynamic perspectives.
Spatial organization
The layout divides into public and private zones:
The communal area combines living, dining, and kitchen spaces
The private wing features two children's bedrooms with private bathrooms and a master suite
Upon entry, a transparent slatted partition frames a vista of the living room, visually expanding the space. Near the entrance, an architectural focal point emerges — a guest bathroom featuring Santa Barbara-inspired arched elements that create striking geometry and welcoming ambiance. A strategically placed column in the dining area discreetly screens the kitchen, preserving the public zone's harmony.
The kitchen — spacious, ergonomic, and meticulously detailed — forms the home's heart. Here, the rhythm of daily life meets architectural purity: no ostentatious ornamentation, just refined attention to proportions and details.
Living room centerpiece
A white portal housing the TV area and humidifier (functioning as a faux fireplace) establishes the interior's compositional axis. Surrounding it, furniture in deep graphite tones creates an inviting focal point. Tactile materials and soft textures in a muted palette complete the ensemble, enhancing the atmosphere of comfort and relaxation.
Key terminology preserved:
"Реечная перегородка" → "slatted partition" (not generic "grille")
"Пилон" → "column" (architectural term)
"Оконные откосы" → "window reveals" (technical construction term)
"Графитовые оттенки" → "graphite tones" (design-specific color reference)
The translation maintains:
The descriptive richness of spatial perception
Precise architectural terminology
The rhythmic flow of the original narrative
Cultural references (Santa Barbara style)
Design philosophy about minimalism and functionality
