The remodel and addition for this home just north of Seattle encompassed additional living spaces to better accommodate a family of five and interior design that emphasized creating a comfortable, casual ambience through rustic textures, natural fabrics and a cheerful color palette. A new kitchen bump-out added a family dining area with a Dutch door and large windows for connection between the indoor and outdoor living spaces. On the second level, a playroom, guest bedroom, office and new bathroom give this young family the space they needed.

Inspiration for the interior design was drawn from the client’s favorite rural east coast childhood retreats. Though the spaces were new, it was important that the entire house felt cohesive, cozy and with a lived-in charm like each decorative element was collected over time. Tongue and groove paneling was added for a farmhouse feel and whimsical light fixtures give the spaces an eclectic character. The color palette was inspired by and built on the existing colors of the home for an integrated/cohesive design between the existing and new spaces.
