After falling in love with Chiloé on a family vacation more than 10 years ago, the architects Carolina Portugueis and Martín Labbé, from the Labbé Portugueis office, decided to buy a piece of land on the island, without thinking about building yet. In those years, the airport that today connects Chiloé with the mainland did not even exist, so access was more difficult and there was not as much connection. For several years they used it to go camping with their two children and enjoy the myrtle forest that surrounds this space, full of chucaos, owls and little birds. And five years ago, they finally broke ground.
The project was always planned as a space for the family, without guest rooms or many square meters. It was truly a family retreat. "It was a super nice exercise, because we wanted to build the minimum: in terms of budget and meters, but that it had the luxury of the place", This is how this cabin was born, which reveals its black gabled roof in the middle of the treetops of the myrtle.
