The design goal for this late 1940’s residence was to introduce fun and youthful characteristics with a bit of subtle glamour. “It was important to maintain the charm and character of the home, yet improve the functionality and romanticize the space with a fresh palette,” said Jean Hoffmann, ASID, CID and President of Chester-Hoffmann & Associates, Inc. “The stunning combination of the soft robin egg blue and floral print creates a restful background while the rich fuchsia adds a feminine splash of life and fun.” The client wanted a dressing room, which opened into the master bedroom. The team created this by converting the neighboring bedroom into an adjoining dressing room. The old doorway access into the bedroom from the main hall was closed and a new doorway was created from the master bedroom to the new closet area. The original closet space in the bedroom was typical of the late 1940’s and very small. It was important to preserve traditional elements of the home yet utilize this space in a modern way, so it became the new home to a built-in used for jewelry, scarves and other small items. In order to work around the un-balanced window placement on the wall framing the queen size bed, a window treatment design was applied with a motorized shade for easy accessibility. The existing original 70-year-old bathroom was too small and not functional, so the adjoining bedroom wall was moved 10 inches in order to provide a larger shower and an ample storage cabinet. The smoked mirror insets in the bath cabinets and polished nickel hardware and plumbing fixtures maintain the character of the home with an updated flavor.
