Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of Moraga, California, a stunning house emerges in perfect harmony with its surroundings. Designed by interior designer Leila Douglah of East Bay’s Douglah Designs, this residence encapsulates the essence of Scandinavian charm, appealing to those who appreciate simplicity and elegance. With lush nature as its backdrop and captivating views of Moraga's rolling hills, this home is a sanctuary that celebrates the beauty of its natural surroundings.
The homeowners who immigrated from Finland in the 1990s envisioned a space that would reflect their minimalistic aesthetic while accentuating the breathtaking vistas and complementing the terraced vineyard they were cultivating. Douglah Designs’ comprehensive interior renovation included new windows, flooring, luxe furnishings, and minimalist decor elements. The home exudes serenity and luminosity, adorned with stark white walls that pay homage to the homeowners' Finnish heritage.
On the exterior of the house, the clean white stucco instantly creates an inviting appearance. However, it is the expansive deck that steals the show. Here, amidst the splendor of the outdoors, a Finnish sauna and an outdoor shower await, inviting residents and guests to indulge in moments of relaxation and rejuvenation while reveling in the breathtaking panoramic views.
The end result is a remarkable fusion of Finnish joy and California living – an embodiment of the happiness for which Finland is renowned.
