RM house

This house was an assignment to create an embedded new house to an existing older house. A functional modern house for the Client to live while allowing them to look after their senior parents living in the older house upfront. We agreed on the idea of creating a green tropical modern garden sandwiched by both new and old buildings. This green garden becomes the main focal points from most part of the house.
This in between garden with a beautiful floating pathway above fish pond will bring the outdoor feel into indoor spaces. The Client would be able to enjoy outdoor feel from most part of the house. Large openings i.e windows, sliding doors would allow plenty of natural light and also provide sufficient cross ventilation.
We introduced “ulin” wood battens as secondary screen especially for 2nd floor south façade. Apart from privacy function, it is also to help filtering the amount of sunlight going inside the interior space. Another wood elements such as ceiling battens and patio decking are key elements to contrast with relatively simple building layout.
The interior space was actually pretty simple and designed to be functional. The floating staircase is visually dominating the interior. Designed to be visually light using timber steps and double side steel stringers. Location of this staircase is at the very center of the house, connecting living area with dining and kitchen and also connecting living area to the more private bedroom on 2nd floor.
We designed the dining area and kitchen to be main part of the house. This will be the area where family members interact each other as they requested. The lady of the house is an avid baker and the rest of the family love to just hanging around the dining table or kitchen island.
RM house is simply a house made to be functional and allowing all family members to enjoy all the spaces together and yet still visually aesthetic.
