The design for our home was inspired by California modern architecture that offers an indoor/outdoor lifestyle. The relationship to the natural environment was extremely important to our clients who wanted their indoor living space to feel like an accessible extension of the outdoors.
The gut and extension of the house created the opportunity for a floor to ceiling wall of windows and sliding glass doors that open into the backyard, blurring the line between the indoor and outdoor environments.
As you walk through the foyer, you’re greeted by a wood clad passageway with concealed pantry storage that acts as a gateway to the heart of the home. The tunnel-like passthrough guides you into the light filled open concept space where the living room, kitchen, and dining area are each defined by varied ceiling heights and architectural elements.
The home is comprised of a variety of raw materials including North American oak and various organic stones that contribute to an earthy modernist aesthetic. Large windows and skylights throughout illuminate these materials and emphasize the architectural intrigue of the home.
Together, these features create a modern and inviting home with a warm livable softness.
