This classic London terraced house was purchased by a young, and growing, family. The house had a lot of charm and character but no major improvement work had been done for two generations.

The brief called for a complement refurbishment, including the external facade, the garden, and an increase of the living space. This has been maximised by adding an extension on the side, plus, at the top level, a new staircase was built and the loft converted.

On the ground floor, the entrance hallway leads to a double reception room. The space used to be two small rooms, which has been turned into one by removing the dividing wall. This also introduced more light thanks to windows on both ends. The area at the front of the house became the main living room, whereas the part towards the back is now a children’s play room.

The remaining part of the ground floor is taken by a kitchen - dining room, which faces the rear garden. The space has also been opened up and enlarged by adding a side extension. Roof lights and Crittal doors and panels bring in plenty of natural light. A modern blue kitchen with Carrara marble worktop contrasts with more rustic and industrial dining space.

The first floor contains family members’ bedrooms and a bathroom. The master bedroom is located at the front and features a classic bay window, with a second large window next to it. The children’s rooms benefit from more private location at the back, but still with plenty of natural light. A single family bathroom is located between the rooms.

A new staircase has been built from the first to the second floor. The previously unutilized loft space has been converted into a guest suite with an own bathroom. A dormer was installed at the back to provide additional height.  The spaces under the eaves have been turned into bespoke storage.

The regeneration works continued throughout garden.  The style of the rear garden is a mix between a low maintenance city garden and planted space.  The majority of the surface has been tiled with large stone tiles, however plant beds have also been created to add some natural greenery.
