More Than Modern

Gut rehab and addition to a turn of the century Chicago 2-flat on the North side of Chicago. Careful attention to materials and textures create a modern and warm interior. Every detail was carefully thought out and designed in collaboration with the Owner.

After the initial design phase was nearing completion, a twist was thrown in when the owners announced the need for another bedroom for their 3rd child. We were thrilled for them and designed a new two story addition on the rear of the home included an exterior porch with large folding glass doors and a bedroom above.
Instead of adding more interior space on the first floor, we designed a covered porch to maximize outdoor space and outdoor time in a typical narrow Chicago lot.

As with all of our projects, we discussed multiple layout options for the home and landed on one that would increase interior space without reducing too much of the exterior. The flow from the kitchen to the porch and yard were critical in this decision.
