ModHood
From RSlavin
Our “ModHood” idea began to take shape somewhere in the Mid-2010’s. We had an interest in building something that would fit our family. It had to have a modern twist. Eight-years of part-time life in Government Camp, Oregon exposed us to the environment.
We spent months distilling our contemporary ideas about clean design, site, durable materials, features and furnishings. We then began conversations with our friend and builder for his help translating those ideas into a practical series of outcomes. Next, we contacted a local architect familiar with area building codes and asked him to put our ideas on paper for county approval. We broke ground May 2016 on ModHood.
For the past four-years we have written our story with each subsequent project. We completed roughly 30-40% of the “work” as a family. From framing and flooring, wiring for shades and sound, to stair railings and decking. Along the way we learned to build with wood, metal, granite and love. It has been a rewarding, challenging and overwhelming experience that has led my wife, daughter and I to truly appreciate our dwelling.
Thank you Dwell for your years of design inspiration.
