The design concept for this renovation was to translate a very sleek and contemporary style into a softened modernism appropriate to the beach area, as well as to the architecture of the home. The clients wanted a unique and memorable space that would reflect the young couples' personal style and provide plenty of room for entertaining.
One way designer Ayla Schares executed this was by turning the original triangular kitchen island into a new island specifically designed to better fit the new kitchen footprint. The old island was awkward and created a lot of wasted space. This change created more space for entertaining, while also incorporating the existing structural column. A white quartz island counter wraps the surface edge and continues down to the dark wood floor. This waterfall island feature allows for functionality when entertaining friends while still remaining true to the clean and sleek design of the home. The white quartz is continuous throughout the kitchen, even wrapping up the wall to take the place of a backsplash.
Clean lines blended with organic materials and smooth contours create a modern, yet comfortable space. Schares incorporated a scheme of white, black and gray glass and rich-toned woods to warm up the contemporary interior.
