A-frame homes are known for their striking triangular architecture and seamless connection to the outdoors. However, designing these homes requires expertise, especially when maximizing space and light, as well as modernizing dated features. Bucks County's Armitage Interiors took on this challenge for a couple who moved from the city to their new mid-century modern A-frame home.
A signature feature of A-frames is their expansive wall of windows, offering an abundance of natural light and beautiful outdoor views. Armitage Interiors embraced this by using light maple-engineered hardwood floors, which reflected the sunlight and added warmth and an organic feel to the space. To open up the floor plan and better utilize the light, they removed several walls, instantly making the home feel more spacious and contemporary.
They also replaced the solid stairway walls with custom slat walls and railings, stained to match the deck and other wood accents. This simple yet elegant update allowed light to flow through the home while creating extra countertop space and storage in the kitchen. The kitchen itself had been closed off, dark, and awkwardly arranged due to the angled wall. Armitage Interiors transformed it by taking down walls, moving the countertops away from the sloping wall for added headroom, and introducing track lighting and updated appliances.
Even the entryway was updated to enhance the flow throughout the house, making it feel more connected and open.
By blending the iconic architecture of the A-frame with modern design elements, Armitage Interiors created a warm, functional home that perfectly fits the clients' love of nature and contemporary living.
