studioMDA, with Studio Christian Wassmann, has designed Lisson Gallery's fourth permanent exhibition space, joining two in London and a third in Milan.
This is a ground-up gallery space located under the High Line. Its unconventional location allows for a block-through building, making it a highly unique gallery in the heart of Chelsea, New York's premier contemporary art district. The gallery has over 4500 sq ft of exhibition space, illuminated with natural light from two full length skylights on either side of the elevated park. The building also houses 4000 sq ft of offices, viewing rooms and art handling space with a separate entrance from W. 23rd Street. The facade features cast-in-place white concrete and a 14 foot tall glass storefront system.
