Laid Back, California Cool

This Laurel Canyon home by Miami-based designer, Taylor Abess of Parlor Interiors is for a young family of four, requiring a kid-friendly environment without skimping on the style. Parlor introduced plenty of playful moments while injecting elevated custom millwork for an added layer of personalization and functionality. The lush greenery of the secluded outdoor garden served as a major source of inspiration for the home.

Indoor/outdoor living is what makes Los Angeles desirable for so many. Inspired by the green outdoor space and year-round sunshine, Parlor brought the outdoors in with custom built-ins and fireplace surrounded in the versant Porter Teleo hand-painted wallpaper. This focal wall grounds the space and allows the eye to rest in such a large open room.

Smart space planning allowed Parlor to transform a once empty hallway into a multi-functional area. Used by the whole family, the space now features a desk, makeup vanity and ample storage with all custom high-lacquer millwork.

The master bedroom is a warm jewel box featuring a burnt sienna grasscloth wall and high pile wool rug for texture and comfort. The vintage sofa was reupholstered in a metallic abstract fabric for visual interest. The vintage bed and bench add another layer of warmth to the space.

Similar to the rest of the home, the outdoor space exudes relaxed california-cool vibes with a splash of glam. A repeated rhythm of graphic shapes and textures in the pool waterline tile and outdoor furniture continue the visual conversation from the interior of the home.
