This Moscow apartment belongs to a Chinese businessman's family with two daughters. In their first meeting with interior designer Ekaterina Spinelli, they mentioned that they had lived in a bright interior for a long time and were very tired of white walls. In their new 180-square-meter space, they wanted to see richer and even darker colors, as well as an atmosphere reminiscent of a hotel. “For me, ‘like a hotel’ means a well-organized luxury interior without visual noise, where seams and joints are perfect, and everything is in its place. You come here to relax,” notes the project's author.
The architecture of the house set the right direction for the design. Thanks to the panoramic windows, the space is bright and airy. One of the two panoramic windows is located in the living room, which is separated from the kitchen by sliding doors. The minimalist common area fully meets the hotel concept. Shelves clad in ash and oak veneer add a touch of nobility to the interior. Special attention is given to the steam fireplace, which not only creates a spectacular visual impression but also serves to humidify the air. Next to it is a coffee table, a Swiss vintage piece from the AM Vintage Gallery collection, adorned with a dish by Josef Inwald made of 1930s Bohemian glass. The motorized curtains are particularly noteworthy. Made from Holland & Sherry fabric, their perfect folds became Ekaterina’s pride thanks to unique English sewing technology.
The kitchen and doors were made in a carpentry workshop with exceptional attention to the selection of veneer and fittings. The door handles, handcrafted by French artisans, set a unique style. The practical kitchen table, made according to original sketches, is crafted from textured veneer, and the tabletop is coated with classic red lacquer. “My particular pride is the vintage chairs by Swiss architect Robert Haussmann,” shares the interior designer. “We restored the frames, replaced the upholstery with blue textile, and now these chairs look completely different.”
In the master suite, special attention was paid to the selection of complex textures and colors: the walls are covered with natural sisal wallpaper by Yana Svetlova. Tinted oak panels are also used in the master dressing room, which has glass fronts for a lighter perception of the small space. For the bed's headboard, deep blue velvet from De Le Cuona was chosen, and leather in the same tone was used to avoid wear in the pillow area. The bedspread made of Indian silk matches the tones of the handmade carpet from Dovlet House.
“I always strive to bring Eastern motifs into my projects, which in this case, considering the owner's origin, was especially appropriate. Moreover, the minimalist Zen style perfectly harmonizes with the concept of international hotels, as the clients wanted,” concludes Ekaterina Spinelli.
