The journey of designing the Kapashera Farmhouse began with a clear vision — to transform an existing recreational space into a luxurious family residence tailored to the modern lifestyle needs of a growing family. The 2-acre plot, previously divided into two distinct blocks, was creatively adapted and seamlessly merged into a single, cohesive home that blends tradition with contemporary elegance.
Initial Brief:
The clients, having lived in a city house, sought a larger home to accommodate their expanding family. They envisioned a 6-bedroom house with dedicated lounging areas and spaces for entertaining guests. The challenge was to adapt the existing blocks—previously used for recreation—into a functional and aesthetically pleasing residential abode.
Design Concept:
The design concept revolved around transforming the existing recreational spaces while maintaining the essence of the original structure. The two blocks were interconnected via a bridge, which became the centerpiece of the layout. Through adaptive reuse, the bridge was given a new roof and incorporated into the overall design, offering a double-height entrance foyer and formal living areas. The bridge not only unified the spaces but also provided a visual connection between the floors, enhancing the grandeur of the home.
Spatial Planning:
To cater to the family’s needs, the design ensured that spaces were thoughtfully segregated and merged where necessary. The spa block was repurposed to include attached bathrooms for the new bedrooms, while additional family lounging areas were incorporated within the new structure. The result is a balanced blend of private and communal spaces, fostering both comfort and functionality.
Landscape Design:
The landscape design complements the architectural aesthetics, with shallow steps guiding visitors through front lawns and along a newly added fountain to the main entrance. Thoughtful façade lighting further accentuates the building’s grandeur in the evening, with uplights highlighting the double-height columns and linear lights defining roof profiles. This seamless integration of architecture and landscape enhances the overall experience of the residence.
Contextual Integration:
Sitting on a spacious plot with minimal immediate context, the design focuses on maximizing views and creating a serene, luxurious ambiance. The grand double-height colonnade on the east and west sides establishes a monumental scale, giving the home a timeless appeal.
Design Highlights:
The standout features of the Kapashera Farmhouse are the adaptive reuse of existing structures, the incorporation of double-height spaces, and the meticulous attention to detail in façade lighting. The bridge, now transformed into a pivotal design element, seamlessly connects the two blocks, creating a visually unified and elegant residence.
