This 1970s tri-level hillside ranch in the heart of Phoenix, AZ has undergone a serious overhaul with a palette consisting of concrete, steel and glass, juxtaposing warm wood tones throughout. The plan was always to create something special, but the project took on a mind of its own once the back-of-napkin budget had been reached twice over. We found ourselves going bigger and more custom at every turn, realizing the neighborhood could handle anything we were careless enough to throw its way. Polishing original concrete floors and sandblasting 1/2" thick stucco from the facade was the beginning, and its brought us through month-long steel fabrication projects, standing seam roof install with eaves/fascia steel wrapping, and even a 14-yard concrete patio in the front of the house of all places! The underlying theme has always been, show off the home's assets, vs. make it something its not; whether it meant adding windows for sunset vistas in the common living spaces, skinning the fireplace in hot rolled steel to draw the eye toward the mahogany ceiling, or cutting out a second story floor to free a garden basement from its darkness.
