A two storey addition and extensive renovation to this century old house in Toronto's leafy High Park neighbourhood provided a clean, modern plan to both floors. A sunken family room was added to ground floor opening up to a new deck extending into a tree-covered rear garden. A second floor master suite overlooks views of the tree canopy. The design was mindful in weaving together existing traditional detailing with contemporary new spaces and a better connection to the garden. Particular attention was given to the cabinetry design, using it as a device to define and animate space.
