This 8500 sq.ft. modern home is covered with a 10,000 sq.ft. green roof, a 36 kilowatt solar array, has a super insulated building envelope assembly complete with triple pane windows, and climate controlled via the geothermal heating + cooling system.

Our studio was involved in the architectural design, interior design and landscape design.
Construction was executed by local builder, DB Custom Homes.

Heavily inspired by Mies Van Der Rohe, the simple box on box design is encased in glass, white ACM panels, and shou sugi ban charred wood siding. The monochromatic palette stands out with the snow covered landscape, but also during peak summer months with greenery surrounding the home on this 6 acre lot.

The simpler the form, the more complex the build - and this design was no exception to the rule. In order to create clean lines, there was a massive investment in custom structural steel (see attached snapshot), 12 foot doors, 12 foot walls, and over 115 feet of glass just on the view side wall of the home.

Integrated into the design is also a 1200 sq.ft. work space to give the owners freedom to transition between family and work while being surrounded by the beautiful natural landscapes on the conservation protected lands.

4 years of planning permissions, and construction during peak covid conditions were no small task, but the end result is something truly remarkable.
