On a large corner lot less than a mile from the Cal State Northridge campus, and the numerous shops and restaurants of the neighboring community, this classic mid-century modern home is an oasis, a respite from the urban milieu. With an entry path bridging a coy pond, a U-shaped central courtyard, and a roofline evocative of the Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto, the Japanese roots of Modernism are clearly visible in the original bones of this home. More recently, a top-to-bottom renovation has aligned the aesthetic with a contemporary California lifestyle, including an open plan, floor-to-ceiling glass walls, and large skylights that flood the interior with natural light. Large sliding doors connect the interior to the lushly-landscaped yard, covered and uncovered sitting areas, and an idyllic swimming pool, replete with vintage diving board. Polished concrete floors, custom built-in cabinetry, authentic stacked stone, wood-burning fireplace, luxurious bath and kitchen finishes, and high-end stainless-steel appliances round out a very special experience.
