An existing ranch home needed more space with its growing family. Located in a shady acre lot, the homeowners had no intention of leaving, only expanding. With some side yard and ample backyard space for an addition, the area to add footprint to the house was obvious off of the back corner. To maximize the cost effectiveness of the added square footage, a two story addition was created, adding to the main level and creating a new lower basement. At the main level, a kids bedroom wing was thoughtfully tied into the existing deck and covered porch. Below at the lower level, a bonus room, office / guest bedroom, full bath and workout space were added. To not let the lower level feel dark and cavernous, the design incorporated taller ceilings and lots of natural light to tie into the greenery of the backyard. Along with the addition, some existing space was renovated into a new laundry room and an improved powder bathroom.
