Positioned on the upper floor of the building, this 80 m2 apartment eschews the typical for a cottage-like ambiance, courtesy of its unique pitched roof. Its lofty ceilings, expansive glass views, and dual generous balconies contribute to its inviting atmosphere. "Working on a space that echoes an unusual home rather than a standard rectangular space was quite the allure. Originally designated for the client's mother, this apartment morphed into a favorite place for the whole family," interior designer Yulia Golavskaya shares.
Yulia brought to life the mood of a rural abode by adorning the visible structural beams with oak. The peak of the ceiling, soaring over five meters, made room for a mezzanine. This elevated section, designed with two child-friendly sleeping areas, is located over the master bedroom. "Designing predominantly for one person living, with the occasional family visit, allowed us to deviate from traditional layouts. The dining area grants direct access to both the main bedroom and the mezzanine, and uniquely, the bathroom opens into the living space," the interior designer says.
To accommodate a family's overnight needs, the living zone features a convertible sofa and an extra chair-bed. Yulia cleverly maximized the apartment's space by incorporating ample built-in storage, employing cabinets beneath the staircase and encircling the bathroom, with sliding doors enhancing spatial flow.
The customer's wish was a bright palette in the interior. "Embracing color was a refreshing departure from my usual monochromatic and serene projects," the author of the project confesses. The design journey began with soft gray kitchen tiles and evolved to include a vibrant living room in green-blue, a terracotta dining space accented by a dark gray wall, with the theme extending to the mezzanine in gray tones and a master bedroom dressed in salmon and blue.
"Initially hesitant about pink, the homeowners were delighted with the final presentation, where softer hues prevailed, offering a soothing visual experience," Yulia shared. She harmoniously integrated the apartment's vibrant hues, accenting the bathroom door with terracotta stripes and the bedroom door with blue, enriching the overall aesthetic.
The designer adeptly mixed various styles in furniture and decor, from iconic designs and vintage finds to bespoke creations, cultivating a dynamic and warm setting. Collaborating with the clients was seamless and delightful, attributed to their refined flavor.
The interior was decorated with the works of Elena Utenkova-Tikhonova, whose creativity resonated with both the designer and the owner of the apartment.
“Each increasingly challenging project contributes to my professional growth, energizing my evolution and forward momentum”, Yulia Golavskaya concludes.
