Cliff Street Duplexes

Using a traditional material like brick in a modern way sets the tone for a contemporary take on the brownstone archetype. The Cliff Homes, two homes of 2,600 s.f. each, feature clean lines, modern forms, and large windows. The design team drew inspiration from the surrounding historic Hill District neighborhood, with its collection of brick brownstones from different eras.

The Cliff Homes are deceptively spacious. The site is located on a downslope side of the street that sits on top of a mountain. The structure is both above and below grade off the street entrance, and bedrooms are located on three different levels, allowing room for guests. This was accomplished using a concrete and metal deck system for the garage to allow rooms below.

Inside, rooms are washed in natural light and open space. Large roof decks take advantage of the location and provide sweeping views.
