Our 400 s.f. tiny house sits on 85 acres on the Locust Fork River. My husband, Glenn Evans, an engineer, designed and built the cabin by hand, carrying materials board by board over one mile of rugged dirt roads on top of our Polaris Ranger. The cabin is completely inaccessible by car and can only be reached by hiking one very hilly mile or being driven there in our Ranger. We feel this remote location, nearly a half mile from the nearest neighbor yet only a few miles from I-65 and only 30 min from downtown Birmingham, makes our property completely unique.
Begun in July 2018, he worked tirelessly to finish the structure, using many reclaimed materials and designing the power and water systems from scratch. We estimate costs to be around $20,000. The cabin runs on solar with a generator back-up, and has a water tank, a composting toilet, and a hot outdoor shower from a propane hot water heater. He created a modern, industrial aesthetic, and built huge decks overlooking the river to enjoy the pristine view. You can view our listing here:
