From James Shaffer

My wife and I spent close to 30 years living in Venice Beach, California. Living the SoCal beach life along with building a clothing company along with a major sales/marketing agency in downtown Los Angeles.

Surfing being my compassion, Costa Rica was a natural migration after we sold both businesses.

Finding surf is not an issue. Costa Rica has probably 100s of good breaks to be found on both coast lines. The trick was finding a community with the right environment and life style to fill in the time between surfing and all the other outdoor activities Costa Rica has to offer.

Enter Playa Ostional. Home to one of the the largest Ridley sea turtle nesting beaches in the world. Ostional is located 7km north of the tourist towns Nosara/Guiones beach. Playa Ostional is a small locals community with very limited building permitted due to the Turtle Reserve. And when the turtles are not nesting... world class waves!

From growing up in southern California, Playa Ostional would be comparable to Malibu California 50 years ago... Just far enough away to keep people from making the trek.
