A bit about the Berkeley project, which has been over four years in the making:
**Beware; this house may be too much fun for some audiences!**
Our goal was to open up the original 1920’s floor plan, gain access to the stunning Bay views, and to incorporate the outdoors, inside. Everything in the house was found, or fashioned. Salvaged Cessna aircraft wings from Faeth Aircraft Salvage in Sacramento now serve as an awning over the cantilevered deck. An original timber from the old east span of the Bay Bridge serves as a structural post in our open living area and kitchen. The basement bath is floor to ceiling tile seconds from Sausalito’s Heath Ceramics. Clawfoot tubs discovered at the Rose Bowl Flea Market sit in multiple bathrooms, with feet restored and copper plated at Oakland’s Johnson Plating Works. Virtually every item tells the story of hours spent restoring, or of something that called out to me on a trip.
I’ve always been a massive fan of Dwell Magazine, and would be absolutely giddy if you were to find the project worthy of sharing in the magazine.
