An existing townhouse, which had fallen into disrepair over several decades, was fully renovated to breathe new life into the landmarked, but dilapidated, structure. Classified as a multiunit dwelling, the renovation preserved this status by creating three generous one-bedroom apartments, and a fourth pied-a-terre studio. While new layouts, mechanical, and structural systems were established, the design preserved much of the original detailing to provide spaces with a character authentic to the original building. Ornate window and door casings, as well as hand laid wood floors with decorative inlay were repaired and celebrated. New features and materials were added to modernize the building and update its look. At the exterior, new windows, doors, and a restored facade turned what was once a neighborhood eyesore into a desirable property for decades to come.
