Brooklyn Townhouse

This Brownstone marries a historically correct restoration with an eclectic-modern sensibility. The result is a Victorian interior that honors the past without feeling stodgy.

From window and door casings to wainscoting and coffered ceilings, the original woodwork throughout the house was stripped, meticulously repaired, and refinished. Some areas that were too far gone to preserve were peeled back to reveal their structural elements, such as brick and wood beams.

The kitchen features rustic and contemporary materials, including a brick herringbone floor, antiqued brass island, original timber, and new custom cabinetry. The back wall was removed to open up the connection between indoor and out.

The old plaster walls, crown moldings, and trim were repaired, re-plastered, and polished before receiving their final paint coats. The floors were painstakingly patched board-by- board and finished to match the 100-year-old original.

The basement was dug out to create greater overhead height, and a new slab with radiant heat was poured. The custom bar, wine storage, and tables make it a wine cellar built for entertaining a crowd.
