This Transitional Suburban Home in Greenville South Carolina was designed by Heidi and Konrad Nyblom, the husband and wife team behind BLOM Design Studio, and built by Cobblestone Homes, a local custom home builder. The home was designed in an attempt to meld Heidi's Scandinavian style as a Finnish born Architect with the American Suburban and Southern styles that were prevalent in the area where the lot was located. The lot was covered mostly with flood plain, leaving only a sliver left for a home site, resulting in a long and narrow design, with the garage in the back and living quarters facing the street. The home features an open floor plan, visually separated from the loft area by a cedar post and beam structure, lending some texture to the mostly white, airy atmosphere. The outdoor living space is covered by the main roof leading to the rear courtyard garage. Heidi's quest for simplicity of design is obvious on the inside of the home, while the exterior is characteristic of many other traditional all-brick homes in the area. The home was the first attempt by this husband and wife design-build duo to change the way homes are designed in the south, showing that good design and a sense of place can be achieved on a budget and can thrive in even the stuffiest surroundings.
