Before & After: This Staircase Gets a Contemporary Revamp

Our clients approached us with the desire to modernize and remodel their existing helical staircase, which had been the centerpiece of their home's entrance. As their home had undergone contemporary renovations over the years, the original staircase no longer complemented the updated aesthetic.

To address this, our design team proposed a more contemporary solution that transformed the staircase into a cleaner and more open design. The new layout featured a 90-degree, L-shaped configuration supported by a single steel stringer with a landing. To seamlessly blend with the existing hand-scraped Hickory floors, we crafted floating treads. Additionally, a glass railing was incorporated to maintain open sightlines and offer multiple perspectives of the adjacent art wall. Thoughtfully designed lighting enhanced both the staircase and the artwork's display.

Beyond the staircase, we took the opportunity to enhance the overall entrance by replacing the adjacent entry closet and bifold doors with a more elegant and functional flush hallway storage design.

Though the project's scope was relatively focused, the impact on the home's main entrance was profound. We are thrilled to have contributed to the completion of these key elements in this truly unique and exceptional home.
