BASE is a casual dining restaurant of author's cuisine in the city of Dnipro, Ukraine.
The restaurant building is located on the pedestrian Korolenko Street.
The contrasting design of the building is widely popular among the buildings and forms a characteristic memorable image in the urban environment.
Big glazing of the facade allows for a large amount of natural light inside the restaurant hall and creates a good visibility of the restaurant's interior from the street, opening a view of the pedestrian alley.
The wide entrance area in the summer works as a terrace for guests. Open swing doors in the summer season combine spaces with street technologies, this allows guests inside to feel like they are in the fresh air.
It was decided not to hide the reinforced concrete and steel frame of the roof, but to use them in the interior as the main materials, complementing them with wood, glass, mirror, stone. This solution helps to show the tectonics of the building.
The open kitchen is clearly visible to visitors of the restaurant from the entrance and is located on the first floor. The openness of the kitchen ensures its cleanliness and openness of all cooking processes.
The staircase connecting the first and second floors is an integral part of the vertical connection. However, to improve the visual connection of the space of the first and second floors, it was decided to create an atrium that helps to connect the spaces of the floors, which has a very good effect on the perception of the space as a whole, and also creates a lot of natural light inside during the daytime.
On the second floor, the center of the composition is the bar, behind which there is a large wall shelving, which acts as a background for the bar and contains the combined structure of the entire building.
The exposed steel beams of the vaulted roof create a view of the high rooms of the second floor. For the visual perception of height, hanging flowerpots with plants were used, among which lamps are randomly located. This visual understatement of the space in the guest landing creates comfort for the guests' stay and at the same time contrasts with the space above the bar, enhancing the novelty and dominance of the bar. Above the contact bar, designer lamps are suspended, designed specifically for this restaurant.
In the center of the hall, a large sofa with decorative, light steel structures that create a large space of the hall, create coziness, but at the same time allow the space to unite together as a single volume.
Chandeliers hung with glass bananas above the atrium serve as storage devices for restaurant elements that are visible inside and outside the building. The design of all lamps was created by Jek Pol Studio specifically for this project and is an important part of the character of the atmosphere and architecture of the building.
On the terrace of the restaurant, as in the interior, a lot of greenery is used, hanging from suspended and observed in the form of fencing flowerpots. The created atmosphere, in which plants allow you to create a cozy space, is best combined with the terrace with large trees planted on the alley next to the building. Of course, this has a positive effect on the restaurant guests, helping them feel like they are in an oasis of comfort, filled with greenery among the urban developments.
The terrace does not interfere with the perception of the building structure, complementary design and softening of the contrasting modernity of the building, the vision of the pergola structures and terrace flooring.
The interior is made of natural materials in combination with modern finishing solutions. Wood, concrete, steel, aluminum, glass, stainless steel, as well as marble in furniture products are very similar to each other and convey the character of the entire design of the building and its contents.
