The project design was entitled to suit the post pandemic life of a young professional, a modern cosmopolitan mind and the vision for a city living - bringing comfort, yet high-tech and sophisticated. The central neighbourhood in Sofia, in which the apartment is situated, is predominantly filled with morally and physically outdated housing units with no aesthetic value. However, the owner planned to inhabit this one bringing the ever-changing dynamics of his bachelor life. The main point was to design a home housing all the activities that could be performed at home - sleeping, working and socialising in a contemporary manner. The floorplan is preserved but the materials, colours and the detailing used separate the zones. The concept is to apply bold material board with different predominant moods in the areas. The whole composition gives the impression of infinity and fluidity with separated functional areas penetrating smoothly between each other. As a unification element the mirrored ceiling in the hallway, alternates dark and light surfaces to highlight planes and volumes. The mirrors on the walls, on the other hand, multiply that effect, brighten the space, and make it look larger. The typical home feeling is enhanced not only by the central bioethanol fireplace in the living room but the oak flooring in the main zones. Both living areas and the office are designed in a very similar manner, implementing the concept of experiencing the workplace in a mild manner. However, the utility areas covered in ceramic form the concept core. The dark feeling is predominant besides its smaller area. Balancing the moods by custom detailing was the key challenge during the design process. The new minimalistic look with distinguishable volumes provides diverse functionalities. The furniture objects’ selection aim to provide elegant colour hints bearing in mind the ergonomics. The specific aesthetics is achieved entirely by architectural principles.
