Designed by Laura Giuliani of House of G Designs, this terracotta kitchen in Ventura County, California was inspired by the need for both color and refinement, while staying true to the midcentury aesthetic of the home without compromising sophistication. The client requested a kitchen that was updated yet timeless, and feminine but not “girly,” so House of G Designs looked to Big Chill (bigchill.com) for the kitchen’s colorful focal point: The Original Fridge in one of Big Chill’s custom colors.

The fridge, a stylistic replacement for the client’s previous Big Chill fridge in Jadeite Green, proved to be both functional and inspirational, as the Salmon-like color statement became a jumping off point for the rest of the home design. The bright, warm tone of the fridge partners seamlessly with the terracotta base of the kitchen design, a neutral, grounding color that the designer incorporates into many projects.

The client’s willingness to take risks partnered with House of G’s stylish eye and Big Chill’s professional-grade appliance resulted in a successful redesign into a midcentury-modern dream.
