A Reminiscence of Archives in Jakarta

It was in this guest room that Insignio decided to hang and play with the family paintings that had been gathered together over the years. A priceless cross-stitched artworks hangs right in the middle, a rural landscape that sewed for 8 years. The color palette of the cross-stitch artworks is the originator of the color idea of the room, this artworks should stand out the most from other paintings because of its historical value. There is a touch of golden yellow from the massive sofa in the middle of the room, adding to the dramatic impression. The living room looks more elegant with the placement of a black piano, making this place warmer to welcome every guest who comes.

The TV cabinet system design by Insignio Studio hides the storage, focusing on the concept of the “entirely full”, while giving life to the whole walls equipped to perfectly integrate with the surrounding architecture. At the center under the TV, perfectly hidden, sits an active speaker.

“The pandemic that has lasted for almost 3 years has hampered the family who like to travel to nature. We recall their good time memories of gathering with family on vacation in the process of designing. A mountain in Italy, named Val di Mello, which is their favorite place to go, is the main concept in this family room. The color combination of green rows of pine trees covered in snow, gray from the mountain rocks, and the reflection of the reddish sunset light from the reflection of the water in the lake is truly unforgettable,” recalls Adianto. The storytelling is reflected in the selection of materials, such as marble with other finishing color combinations, similar to the mountains that he described.

The whimsical and contemporary style give strong impressions in the corridor leading to the bedrooms through the selection of dark blue colors and paintings that are deliberately placed at the end of the corridor. There is a common room inside bedroom. Soft color palette to enhance the natural light, so you’ll see a lot of white, cream, and smooth grey in this room. The room will stay bright day and night.

This bedroom is also equipped with a walk in closet and vanity corner. The vanity desk is movable so that it’ll give access to the balcony.

The journey of the renovation continues, including the workspace on the 3rd floor. “At first, our client didn't have a workspace, but since the pandemic they started to need a comfortable place to work. The furniture is made from old furniture that has been modified.” said Adianto.

At the end of the day, mid-century design gravitates toward the things you are passionate about. It’s an all-embracing decor that is fun and a great way to see every corner of spaces come to life with charming quirks.

Creating glass windows following a curved architectural form is a challenge in itself, but this is Insignio’s way of maintaining the architectural details that have existed since the house was built. Thanks to the spirit of collaboration and support with contractors and window vendors, a row of curved glass creates an intimate and soft atmosphere in the room.

An interior renovation project of a 561 meter square residential house in the area of
Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta - Indonesia designed by Insignio Studio.

When it comes to designing a home, comfort and functionality should take the front seat. Each dwelling has a unique identity and historical value from its owner that cannot be removed. This is the philosophy and key value of Insignio Studio, founded by Adianto Salim, Ricky Guna Kusuma, and Angie Tjisnoyo.

“We feel like a tailor cutting and tying old memories that grew together since the very beginning of this house being built 10 years ago. The priority is to see the potential for important architectural details, and preserve it. Second is the history, then we insert and intervene until we achieve changes that we think are quite magical” Says Adianto.

This 561m2 house with an eclectic theme with a touch of Italian mid-century modernism, is located in the Kelapa Gading area of North Jakarta and consists of 3 stories. This project succeeded in fulfilling the hopes of the entire family to have a comfortable house full of memories, making this house a realization of the many dreams that have now come true.
