A Haven in Davis

This mid century modern Streng Brothers home sits near the end of a U-shaped street close to UC Davis. Purchased in 2014, the owners painted the house and added new hardwood and concrete floors, but left most of the original design elements of the house, including a built-in table height peninsula. The highlight of the house is its front garden. A landscape architect by training, the owner designed steel terraces where there was once a gradually sloping lawn in order to create a neat and natural habitat that also reflected the home’s mid-century style. Each segmented area contains low-water plants as well as plants that attract beneficial wildlife.
