It's a design dilemma faced by many: How to make new construction feel not quite so hot-off-the-press? Southeast Idaho-based design studio, Juniper Interiors, recently rose to the challenge with a newly constructed 5,000-square-foot colonial style home located in Idaho Falls.
Featuring a commanding center hall and high ceilings, founders, Jacie Coleman and Erika Hachey, took the home from brand new to timeless through a series of strategic moves.
First, the designers sourced materials such as white oak flooring, natural stone tile, and marble counters. “We were intentional in selecting materials that would patina and age gracefully, getting better over time,” says Coleman. Secondly, they exercised restraint when it came to furnishing the 5-bedroom, 5-bath home. A neutral color palette with a mix of newly sourced and vintage furnishings gives the home a clean and casual feel.
“I reflected back on my childhood home and the effortless manner in which my mother would arrange things,” says Coleman. “We didn't have much extra money growing up, but our home was always clean and bright and filled with fresh flowers.”
