A Chatham House

Remodeled by an ex yacht builder, much was made of the 1000 sq ft available.
Use of every available inch is a must in yacht design and was applied here through the use of built ins and optimization of storage spaces.

Beneath the the stairs the builder managed to include a broom closet, an electric fireplace, a television, a washer and dryer and the built in medicine/linen cabinet in the bath. An attic-like space was fitted with single beds that roll away into the otherwise unusable space as eaves taper to meet the floor. Built in 2007, the house has been redesigned that utility is maximized, and maintenance is minimized.

The vaulted ceilings and open-plan design combined with gas heating, double glazed windows, 6-inch thick insulation and LED lighting makes for large living with a small footprint. The house is nearly heated alone by the 1500 watt electric fireplace.Effort was made when possible to use sustainable and responsibly harvested materials such as engineered wood and Brazilian teak (50+ year lifespan). In addition to its comfortable interior, the French doors open onto an expansive deck and a leafy private backyard that is outfitted with a gas fire bowl for year-long comfort and enjoyment.
